Stowaway Recording opened in 2017 in downtown Oklahoma City. Stowaway celebrates the music history of the Deep Deuce District, birthplace of jazz guitar legend Charlie Christian. This modern and clean space provides a creative home to musicians from OKC, Norman, and the Oklahoma and Texas music communities. The downtown OKC location offers the opportunity to walk to the best of the city’s restaurants, coffee joints, bars, and venues.

Our 1200 sq. ft. space has two main recording rooms and one control room. The longitudinal live room is perfect for full band live recording and features an upright Baldwin Concert Vertical piano, 1976 Rhodes Suitcase, 1982 Wurlitzer 200A, Mellotron, Hammond XB-2, and numerous synths and amps. Effects pedals line bookshelves filled with novels and comics. The whole space is designed to inspire conversation and creativity. A smaller, acoustically silent room facilitates close drum miking and vocal performance.

The control room is wrapped around a Rupert Neve Designs 5088 console, one of the the only in Oklahoma. This high-voltage and fully discrete console offers tremendous warmth and vibe. Recording can be done to a 2-inch 16-track MCI tape machine, restored by Chris Mara in Nashville, or to Pro Tools, Logic, or Ableton Live. Monitoring is through marvelously accurate ATC SCM45As. Outboard gear abounds, including Bricasti, Avalon, SSL, API, and other modules. Digital/Analog IO is passed through Benchmark DAC/ADC units and UAD Apollo interfaces.

The studio can be booked for both tracking and mixdown. Use of the studio requires an engineer. The cost of tape is included, but may require an additional engineer for tape-op. Meet our engineers here. We can also provide access to top-tier studio musicians. Contact us for rates.
